The Political Coordination Board (Jucopo) of the Senate reported yesterday that 43 people met the requirements of the call to participate in the elective process of the new head of the Attorney General’s Office (FGR).
Among them is Ernestina Godoy Ramos, who currently serves as head of the organization and is mentioned as the one who will remain in office for the next nine years.
The Jucopo did not report the total number of registered participants, it only released the list with the names of the 43 who met the requirements. Highlights include Ricardo Peralta Saucedo, former general administrator of Customs; César Mario Gutiérrez Priego, son of General Jesús Gutiérrez Rebollo, accused of links to drug trafficking; Richard Urbina, prosecutor for Crimes Committed by Public Servants of Mexico City; Jorge Nader Kuri, former director of the Faculty of Law at La Salle University, and Hamlet García Almaguer, former federal deputy for Morena, among others.
The requirements that the applicants met are to be a Mexican citizen by birth; be at least 35 years old on the day of appointment; have a professional degree in law, with a minimum of 10 years’ experience; enjoy good professional reputation and honorability; commitment to democratic values and not having been convicted of an intentional crime.
The Jucopo will verify the candidates’ files today and select at least 10 who, through the board of directors, will put them up for consideration by the full Senate.
Once the list is approved, it will be sent to the head of the federal Executive Branch to form a shortlist and send it to the consideration of that Chamber of Congress.
