This Monday, February 7, Equipos Consultores presented a public opinion survey on the preference of Uruguayans before the referendum on March 27, against 135 articles of the Law of Urgent Consideration (LUC).
The study corresponds to the month of January, and concludes that 41% of Uruguayans would vote to maintain the 135 contested articles and 31% to repeal them.
However, there are 26% undecided, 1% would vote “blank” (which adds up to the vote for “No” to the repeal) and another 1% would vote annulled.
According to the Teams survey, there has been “volatility” in the preferences for “Yes” and “No”, which is a reflection that the background opinion structure is “not solid”.
When the “Yes” and “No” voters were asked if their preference is firm or if it could change, “9% recognized that their decision could change”.
At the end of January, the “No” shows an advantage over the “Yes” but, in a scenario of “high indecision and high volatility of preferences, the scenario is still open”.
Important or secondary?
On the other hand, according to the public opinion survey, 71% of the population believe that the referendum is “of great importance for the country and its future”, and 23% consider that “it is a secondary issue that is not very important ”.
