In the midst of several debates and with a majority vote, which many pointed out was a ‘pupitrazo’, they approved the general budget of the nation for 2023 for 405.6 billion.

A budget that in figures is 14 billion higher compared to the year 2021; It was approved this week in the middle of a debate where differences prevailed, but which was finally achieved for 405.6 billion pesos, although some pointed out, it was “a fist bump.”
According to the Ministry of Finance, this value represents 27.7% of GDP and an increase of 15.1% compared to 2022.
“It is a budget that advances significantly on the draft that was presented by the previous government, especially in a significant increase in social programs such as agrarian reform and rural development,” said José Antonio Campo, Minister of Finance.
This is how the budget goes
Within the budget there are three main items: government operations for 235.4 billion; debt service for 78 billion, one of the most applauded since they are destined for the external and internal debt of the country, and investment for 74.2 billion.
And, within the budget, the different sectors also remained that way, the ones with the greatest resources are the following:
- Education, 54.8 billion.
- Health and social protection, 50.2 billion.
- Treasury, 48.7 billion.
- Defense and police, 48.3 billion.
- Work, 37.9 billion.
Now those who find themselves with fewer resources are the following:
- Science and technology ,401 billion.
- Culture,693 billion.
- Justice and reparation,752 billion.
- Sport and recreation, 898 billion.
Finally, the departments that will have the largest budget are Antioquia, Valle del Cauca, Bogotá, Cundinamarca and Santander. Unlike the departments of the Amazon region that will have less resources.
It should be noted that next year there will not only be a very significant increase in the nation’s public spending, because if the tax reform is approved, additional money will come in.
This budget will have no further modifications, it will be passed to the Presidency of the Republic to be signed and published as law.
