This was reported by the executive director of the Dominican Institute for the Prevention and Protection of Occupational Risks (IDOPPRIL), Fausto López Solís, when expressing his “total support” for the National Road Safety Plan 2025-2030.

López Solís highlighted that such planning will raise awareness in the population and will constitute encouragement for the families of those affiliated with the Occupational Risk Insurance (SRL). This, due to the high number of reports of travel accidents.
He indicated that in the first 10 months of 2024 the IDOPPRIL has received 9,545 reports of such cases and of them 6,592 involved motorcycles.
“With the implementation of the Road Safety Plan, the pain caused to members by workplace accidents on the way that occur in the country will be reduced. We have seen workers maimed and seriously injured, and even die as a result of an accident while traveling. This hurts us deeply, since these are situations that can be avoided, and this is what President Abinader is looking for,” López Solís added.
In addition, he maintained that from 2020 to October of this year, according to the statistics managed by IDOPPRIL, 48,293 reports of work accidents on the journey have been registered, which generated payments to members in the amount of RD$ 5,121,429,581.29.
The head of the insurance entity stated that the majority of accident reports correspond to motorcycles, with 30,346 cases that involved disbursements of RD$3,370,634,664.98, to cover hospitalization expenses, medications, compensation and pensions delivered to their members and beneficiaries.
López Solís added that 80% of employees in free zones use this type of vehicle to travel to their workplaces.
The official expressed that, from La Semanal, the president was emphatic in addressing an issue that claims a significant number of lives each year.
The director of IDOPPRIL spoke on the subject referring to the signing of Decree 656-24, which declares road safety of high interest throughout the country and which establishes the process of elaboration and implementation of the aforementioned plan.
López Solís said that IDOPPRIL will follow the instructions of the initiative, in line with its role.
He pointed out that this seeks to create mechanisms to reduce deaths from traffic accidents by 50% by 2030.
