4-year-old boy dies electrocuted: ANDE talks about clandestine connection

The parents of Fernando Báez Sosa were “satisfied” with the ruling that this Monday sentenced five people to life imprisonment, but they will appeal it to demand that the other three defendants for the young man’s crime be sentenced to the same sentence.

“From now on, a very important story is born in the Argentine Justice, when these murderers who took our son in the cruelest way are convicted. We are satisfied,” Graciela Sosa, the victim’s mother, said at a press conference.

The Oral Criminal Court No. 1 of the Buenos Aires city of Dolores (200 kilometers south of the Argentine capital) sentenced this Monday to life imprisonment for Máximo Thomsen, Matías Benicelli, Enzo Comelli, Ciro Pertossi and Luciano Pertossi for the death of Fernando Báez Sosa, an 18-year-old youth.

All of them were convicted as criminally responsible co-authors of doubly aggravated homicide by the premeditated cooperation of two or more people and treachery.

Three other defendants Blas Cinalli, Ayrton Viollaz and Lucas Pertossi, were sentenced to 15 years in prison as secondary participants in the murder doubly aggravated by premeditated competition of two or more people and treachery.

APPEALS

Both the Prosecutor’s Office and the lawyers of the parents of Báez Sosa will appeal the ruling because they understand that all the accused should have been sentenced to life imprisonment, while the defense of the accused, who requested their acquittal, will also appeal the sentence.

Graciela Sosa said that, although nothing will return her son, now feels “some peace” after hearing the conviction and he maintained that now he will be able to grieve and “learn to live with pain.”

“We got what we were looking for, which was justice. We are satisfied with the ruling.” said Silvino Báez, father of the victim.

Fernando Burlando, lawyer for the parents of Báez Sosa, confirmed that he will appeal the ruling because the complaint understands that “everyone should be sentenced to life imprisonment.”

Báez Sosa was attacked at dawn on January 18, 2020, as he was leaving a nightclub in the Buenos Aires city of Villa Gesell, where he received several blows with his fist and kicks, until he became unconscious, an attack that was recorded on security cameras.

The death of Báez Sosa generated a wave of widespread repudiation in Argentina, to the point that strong security measures were taken during the trial, which was broadcast daily on the country’s television.

The case has also been closely followed in Paraguay, whose Congress has joined Báez Sosa’s demands for justice, since his parents are Paraguayans living in Argentina.
