4-2: Olympic goal by Damián Díaz

Striker Damián Díaz scored an Olympic goal in Barcelona’s 4-2 win over Montevideo Wanderers, from Uruguay, in the match played in Guayaquil for the first date of Group A of the Copa Sudamericana.

The Uruguayan Gonzalo Mastriani at 9 and 12 minutes, Michael Carcelén at 35 and Díaz at 54 converted the goals for Barcelona, while the Argentine Hernán Rivera at 14 and Mauro Méndez at 61 discounted for the Uruguayan team.

The local’s offensive fluidity allowed him to score four goals, which could have been more since Díaz himself missed a penalty in the 50th minute, with a shot that slowly reached the goalkeeper’s hands.

But Barcelona also had difficulties defending what the Bohemian team took advantage of, as they call the Wanderers.

Barcelona opened the scoring at their stadium with a header from the Uruguayan striker Mastriani, off a pass from Jonathan Perlaza.

And he made it 2-0 with another goal from Mastriani, who subtly finished off goalkeeper Ignacio De Arruabarrena, after a great assist from Adonis Preciado.

Wanderers responded with an attack orchestrated by their attacking midfielder Nicolás Quagliata, which ended in a goal, the result of a shot by Argentine striker Rivera.

Barcelona rearranged itself, detected the ease with which its rival let go of the attack, took precautions and waited for the right moment to go back on the offensive.

Left winger Leonel Quiñónez launched a cross that overtook the opposing defensive block, a cross that Carcelén arrived to score the third with a precise header.

The Argentine-Ecuadorian Díaz, who had missed a penalty, vindicated himself with an Olympic goal in the 54th minute, as he executed a corner kick that slipped into the Wanderers goal, when De Arruabarrena had advanced a little.

Méndez, from Wanderers, replaced Quagliata in the 59th minute and in the 61st minute he beat Argentine Javier Burrai’s goal to make it 4-2.

The last five minutes the Bohemian team played with one man less after the injury of defender Juan Acosta.

On the next day, Barcelona will visit the Argentine Lanús and Wanderers will receive the Venezuelan Metropolitans.
