After an interdiction operation, maritime and land, carried out during the early hours of this Saturday on the coast of the province of azuathe National Drug Control Directorate (DNCD) reported that he held 397 packets of a white powder, presumably cocaine.
So far in May, the Dominican authorities have seized some 1,879 kilograms of cocaineadding a total this year of about 16,200 kilograms (16.2 tons of different drugs).
Through a press release, the institution indicated that they received a report that a fast boat could introduce drugs into the country, so they went to the place. Supposedly, those who boarded the boat, realizing the presence of the authorities, managed to reach the shores of Palmar de Ocoa and at the moment of making contact with the ground units, a gunfight broke out, “which they took advantage of to evade the surrounded by the authorities.
The agents seized the boat with a 60-horsepower engine and seized 13 bales. The boat is a Go Fast type of about 25 feet in length.
According to the DNCDthe agents managed to seize an AR-15 rifle with its charger and 23 capsules, a satellite phone, a cell phone, two GPS, six jugs of fuel, a beach cooler, with water and energy drinks, among other items.
The institution added that they sent additional units to the area that have joined the search efforts, “to find the members of this drug trafficking network, whose mode of operation is to bring important shipments of drugs from South America in speedboats.”
The seized packages were sent under chain of custody to the National Institute of Forensic Sciences (Inacif) to determine their exact type and weight.
According to DNCD“the interdiction operations against the threats of drug trafficking and related crimes continue to increase in air terminals, ports, coasts, borders and throughout the national territory, actions that have allowed them to continue dealing significant blows to the drug trafficking networks that try to use Dominican territory for their illicit activities”.
