Agents of the National Directorate of Drug Control (DNCD) and members of the Public Prosecutor’s Officeseized 360 sheets presumably cocaineduring inspection work carried out in the port of Manzanillo, province of Montecristi.
The official agencies, after receiving intelligence reports, set up a surveillance and verification operation, managing to intercept a load of bananas in a container, inside which 365 sheets of a substance presumed to be cocaine were found, camouflaged in one hundred (100) cardboard boxes.
“It has been preliminarily established that the sheets of the substance have a preliminary weight of 104 kilograms.”

According to the manifest, the contaminated cargo, in the form of sheets inserted between the lids of cardboard boxes, would be sent from the Manzanillo terminal to the Netherlands.
In connection with the case, the authorities arrested three men, who are in the custody of the Permanent Attention Jurisdiction of Montecristi to be subjected to coercive measures in the coming hours.
In the joint interdiction operation, the acting units also seized a shotgun, a van, cell phones and other evidence.
The Public Prosecutor’s Office and the DNCD are activating the location of other possible persons involved in the failed shipment of the cargo to Europe, while continuing to expand the investigative process.
The 360 sheets of the substance were sent to the National Institute of Forensic Sciences (INACIF) in Santiago, to determine the type and exact weight of the stash.
