The director of the Scientific, Criminal and Criminal Investigations Corps (CICPC), Commissioner Douglas Rico, reported on his Instagram account that officials from the Environmental Crimes and Animal Abuse Investigation Division rescued 31 birds and a wild monkey in the vicinity of the municipal market of Catia, Sucre parish of the Libertador municipality of Caracas, which were going to be sold.
According to Rico, the offering of these species for illegal sale was done through social networks.
The commissioner said that the animals “were in unsanitary conditions and some of them had health problems.”
For this reason, Germán Rodríguez, 44 years old, was arrested on site, “because he was in charge of receiving the animals from the interior of the country; also, in Artigas, El Paraíso parish, Caracas, Genimar Gallardo, 28 years old, was arrested, because she was in charge of publishing through social networks and initiating negotiations for the different animal species, obtaining a profit margin from the sales, contributing to the alteration of the ecosystem,” the official said.
They stole the species from their habitat
The commissioner explained that investigations determined that the detainees are part of a “network of unscrupulous people” who remove species from their natural environment “bringing them to the city of Caracas in unhealthy conditions.”

- Eleven (11) Eupsittulapertinax (Dirty Face) parrots,
- One bird (1) ochrocephala (Royal Parrot),
- Two (2) psittaciformes (Agapornis)
- Thirteen (13) birds of the species Foxpas Passsexius (Parakeet),
- One (1) bird of the species Ramphaastidae Golden-rumped Toucan
- Three birds (3) of the species Spinuspsaltria (Chiruli)
- One (1) wild animal of the species (Cebus Capucinus)
These species were placed at the disposal of the Ministry of People’s Power for Ecosocialism.
The procedure was also placed under the jurisdiction of the 87th National Prosecutor’s Office of the Public Ministry, with jurisdiction over Comprehensive Environmental Defense and Environmental Crimes.
