Botafogowith a brace from Tiquinho Soares and a goal from Eduardo, thrashed 3-0 at corinthians this Thursday and regained the leadership of the Brazilian Championship with full victories after playing the first five days. The Rio de Janeiro team, owned by American tycoon John Textor, remains intractable in this start of the League and today added a Corinthians to its list of victims that is on the verge of relegation.

The box of the Portuguese Luís Castro began the party in minute 12, when Soares caught a rebound after a header from the Argentine Víctor Cuesta that crashed into the crossbar. The visitors, led by Vanderlei Luxemburgo, conceded the second in minute 65, also the work of Soares from a penalty.

The Rio de Janeiro squad has 15 points out of a possible 15 in the Brazilian Championship, with two ahead of Palmeiras, who thrashed Gremio 4-1, and five over Fluminense, who defeated Cruzeiro 2-0 at home, with the Argentine Germán Cano scoring one of the goals.

In fourth position is Athletico Paranaense, with nine points after winning this day by 0-2 against Internacional. Below, Cuiabá, Goiás, Coritiba and América Mineiro, bottom team, occupy the four relegation places to the second division.
