Valverde.– Members of the G2 Intelligence Directorate and uniformed officers of the Dominican Republic Army (ERD) detained 29 undocumented immigrants who were being transported in the bed of a truck, covered with chicken crates.
The arrest of the foreigners and the two crew members of the truck, a white Daihatsu brand, license plate I13545, occurred in the early hours of this Saturday in the District community “La Reforma Mao.”
The driver of the vehicle, identified as Gabino Alfredo de la Rosa Berroa, and his assistant, José Rafael Lizardo, were sent to the prosecutor’s office of the Montecristi province, where they came from, to be brought before the courts.
Meanwhile, Haitians with irregular immigration status were sent to the General Directorate of Migration (DGM) in Dajabón to be screened and returned to their country of origin.
In recent days, members of the Dominican Republic Army attached to the 10th Infantry Battalion of the 4th Brigade based in Mao have detained hundreds of foreigners, merchandise and Dominicans, using new methods to try to evade military surveillance at the border.
