MIAMI, United States. — At least 27 U.S. businessmen and five other Cuban-Americans are in Cuba to explore possible businesses in Cuba, reported today the EFE Agency.
It is a business forum promoted by the organization Focus Cubaa North American consulting and travel company to the Island, and by the Cuban regime itself, a fact that had not happened since 2016.
The event was opened by the president of the Cuban Chamber of Commerce, Antonio Carricarte, who called on the participants to “take advantage of the loopholes left by the blockade to evaluate how to increase the presence of US businessmen at this stage of Cuban development.”
The US delegation is headed by Phil Peters and Paul Johnson, representatives of Focus Cuba.
According to Peters, “Cuba has acted significantly, especially in the participation of private actors in the economy”, in relation to the reform that has allowed the creation of more than 5,000 medium and small companies (MSMEs) since September 2021.
In his speech, Antonio Carricarte was hopeful about the possibilities of exchange between the two countries and described US businessmen as “proactive, creative and enterprising who instead of seeing obstacles, see opportunities to do business.”
In one of the conferences associated with the business forum, the deputy minister of economy of the Cuban regime will intervene Alexander Gil Fernandezwho will address issues related to the different types of private companies that exist on the Island.
The EFE Agency highlights that the event until Friday with panels and a business round on the agro-industrial, commercial and technological sectors.
The Spanish media highlighted that the new business forum between Cuba and the US is an example of the intensification of bilateral relations in the last year, still far from the levels of exchange reached during the so-called “thaw”.
