On Twitter, some users have shared videos of overflowing rivers that have flooded farms, dragged livestock and destroyed other facilities.
Mérida, where at least 17 deaths from the rains were reported in 2021, is once again at risk due to the heavy rainfall that has been recorded in the entity since Sunday, April 17, and which has already affected at least 15 communities in the municipality. Bishop Ramos Lora, the most affected so far.
In that municipality, 250 families have been affected by flooding and downpours, which have left 25 homes with total loss, according to reports collected by Cocuyo effect.
The emergency due to the rains extended to the Héctor Amable Mora parish, in the Alberto Adriani municipality, which is the Pan-American axis of the state. There, the Blanca creek overflowed, closing the passages to the Quebrada Blanca, Caño Amarillo and Caño Arena sectors. Trunk road 001, which connects that area with other municipalities and with the rest of the country, was also impassable for approximately one kilometer.
“The El Manzano and Salado Alto sectors, located in the Campo Elías municipality, are also being monitored after the flooding of the La Ceibita and Montalbán river basins,” reported the digital medium. Also due to the deterioration of the dam of the latter basin, caused by the rains, according to a Civil Protection report, the families of the Ejido community will be affected with the supply of drinking water.
Likewise, Simón Pablo Figueroa, mayor of the Campo Elías municipality, reported that at least 10 families and a local mechanical workshop suffered damage, as well as the streets that were blocked. They asked for machinery to be able to remove them.
