The 1st Trial Court in Matters of Crimes of Violence Against Women of Táchira decreed a sentence consisting of 25 years and 1 month in prison for Luis Arnulfo Vergel Chacón (35) for his responsibility in sexual violence and physical violence exercised against his partner; a 52-year-old woman, the Prosecutor’s Office reported.
This fact was reported on December 18, 2023 by the victim to officials of the Bolivarian National Guard in San Juan de Colón, Ayacucho municipality in the state of Táchira. She told the aforementioned military component that Vergel Chacón had physically and sexually assaulted her on several occasions.
In this sense, the woman indicated that in the last hours she intervened in an argument between her partner and her son; and some time after the events, the man grabbed her by force by one arm, head-butted her and continued hurting her while they were both on the ground. After releasing her and returning to the house, Vergel Chacón tried to headbutt her again and held her by the neck with his hands.
Due to the repeated assault, the victim’s son came to his mother’s defense. The distraction allowed the woman to take a stick and hit the aggressor to prevent him from attacking her son again. After moments of calm, Vergel Chacón ordered the woman to enter the room they shared and threatened her son with killing them both if he tried to enter.
After that, and out of fear of being attacked, the fifty-year-old agreed to submit to his sexual demands. After falling asleep and waking up hours later, the perpetrator grabbed her by the hair.
