This afternoon the authorities of the Public Ministry and the National Police held a conference to give details of the fortress operation carried out in the province of Veraguas, Chiriquí, Herrera and Panama, where they captured 25 people, seized money, drugs and even property. .
According to the Attorney General of the Nation, Javier Caraballo, this operation began in February 2019 after receiving information about a group of people who used the Pacific coast of the Veraguas area and the Chiriquí province to transport drugs.
“This well-structured group received illicit substances through speedboats from Colombia in some islands such as Cébaco, Coiba, Pixbae, and these illicit substances were trafficked to Costa Rica and Central America,” he stressed, assuring that after several years of intense investigation , stealthily and effectively, the provisional apprehension of 25 people linked to this criminal group, 21 men and 4 women, was achieved.
He said that there were 33 appeals that were made until today, achieving the provisional arrest of more than 274,910 balboas linked to this criminal group.
Caraballo specified that they already have the evidence that will allow them to present these people before the judicial authorities; that is, the judges of guarantees and formulate charges for the crimes of money laundering, money laundering and for the crimes of conspiracy to commit a drug-related crime.
For his part, the director of the National Police, John Dorheim, explained that four of the detainees are foreigners, three men and one woman. In addition, he said that two farms were seized, one of them with 31 thoroughbred horses, in addition to this 16 high-end and four-wheel drive vehicles were seized. 2,043 packages of illicit substances were also seized.
“Here is a message for the entire community, crime does not pay, we are going to continue working, we are going to continue fighting and we are going to continue bringing peace to each of the homes in our country,” Dorheim assured.
