In all, 11,876 candidates participated in Regional and Municipal Elections (ERM) of last October 2. They failed to comply with the first delivery of financial information on electoral campaign expenses. Of this group, the National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE) indicated that 2,448 applicants belong to the northern regions.
The electoral body stressed that the Political Organizations Law (LOP) establishes that candidates have the obligation to render accounts at two moments, one of them during the electoral campaign. However, he claimed that a group of applicants did not.
He explained that the first delivery of financial information corresponds specifically to the contributions, income received and expenses made during the electoral campaign.
On the list of candidates who did not report expenses to the ONPE are Tumbes, with 14 applicants; Lambayeque, with 111; Amazonas, with 297. Meanwhile, in Cajamarca 567 candidates were detected; in Piura, 551; and in Ancash, 998 applicants in the same condition.
A different situation occurs in Tumbes, which, along with Tacna and Pasco, are part of the regions whose candidates did submit financial information to the ONPE.Therefore, they register percentages close to 100%. Of the total number of regions, only Madre de Dios reached 100%.
