23 people are apprehended for Aggravated Fraud and Financial Crimes, they left patrimonial damage for more than 276 thousand dollars

With more than 30 search procedures, the National Police and the Public Ministry carry out the Phishing II and Ardid II operations, this Tuesday, July 4, 2023 in the provinces of Panama, Panama West and Coclé, with the aim of dismantling two criminal groups dedicated to Aggravated Fraud and Financial Crimes.

In total 23 people were apprehended in both operations, of these; 20 directly linked to 18 complaints for Financial Crime, where the patrimonial affectation exceeds 137 thousand dollars.

Another 3 apprehended remain related to 11 complaints for crimes of Aggravated Fraud with an economic impact of more than 139 thousand dollars. Among these is alias “Larry” alleged ringleader of the network of fraudsters.

This network of scammers created fake yards of cars for sale at auction prices, drawing the attention of the victims to those who charged high sums of money for the vehicle, and asked for a time of 15 days to deliver the property with all the documents. After the days, the victims resorted to looking for their car and the patio no longer existed.

The raids were carried out in residences and businesses of those involved in the investigations carried out by the 5th Prosecutor’s Office. Against the Economic Heritage and the Prosecutor’s Office Against the Economic Order of the Public Ministry.

Among the seized evidence were cell phones, USB, laptop, various documents and a supplier of firearms.
