22-year-old Nicaraguan disappears after being dragged down the Rio Grande

The young Tomás Eduardo Valle Pérez, 22, was swept away by the dangerous currents of the Rio Grande in Mexico when he tried to cross into the United States in search of the American dream.

The disappearance of the Nicaraguan was reported by a friend of the young man to his family in Nicaragua, who in turn requested help from the Texas Nicaraguan Community organization to find the whereabouts of the disappeared man.

The organization explained on its Facebook page that Tomás Eduardo tried to cross over to American soil last Saturday, July 16, at night in the Piedras Negras sector.

“Since they reported it, we notified the authorities to start their search, Grupo Beta. Still no results of finding the body. We are still searching,” the organization wrote. Texas Nicaraguan Community on your Facebook account.

Tomas Eduardo Valle Pérez is originally from the department of Managua and was traveling with a group of people whose final destination was the United States. The organization informed the Beta Group of Mexico to take charge of carrying out rescue and salvage tasks.

So far in 2022, there have been dozens of deaths of Nicaraguans who have died due to submersion when being dragged by the dreaded waters of the Rio Grande. Most flee the sociopolitical situation and others in search of a better economic future for their family.

The United States is among the countries to which Nicaraguans migrate the most and due to the difficulties in obtaining the American visa to enter legally, a large number have decided to risk crossing the Rio Grande.

The US and Mexican administrations agreed to place barbed wire on the banks of the Rio Grande next to Mexico, as a measure to try to reduce the number of migrants entering US soil.
