2025: Peru reaches historic figures in coffee exports and prices

Peruvian coffee is experiencing one of the best moments in its history. As of December 29, 2025, the value of exports reached US$1,671,627,167a record figure never before recorded by the national coffee sector.

This is what he points out Geni Fundesagronomist and general manager of the Central Coffee and Cocoa of Peru, who highlights that this result responds both to high international prices and to the sustained work of thousands of producers throughout the country.

During this year, he explains, the international price of coffee reached US$338 per quintal, equivalent to US$3.38 per pound or US$7.45 per kilogram of green coffee, the highest level observed to date.

This record was achieved with the export of 4.94 million quintals, that is, 224,231 metric tons of green coffee. “The most important thing is that these results have had a direct impact on the production areas, where the prices paid to the producer have tripled compared to previous years,” Fundes emphasizes.

One of the most relevant advances in 2025 has been the growth of specialty coffees, those that are marketed strictly for their sensory quality in the cup.

According to Geni Fundes, this year it is projected that they will exceed 5% of the total exported volume, with a value greater than US$ 150 million, compared to the US$ 100 million registered in 2024.

This growth, he maintains, is the result of the articulated work promoted by the Central Coffee and Cacao of Peru together with the national coffee community, especially through the Cup of Excellence competition, which in its ninth edition shows an increasingly consistent offer of Peruvian coffee recognized by the international industry.

Cup of Excellence was held this year and Cajamarca shone again.

The auction held on December 2 reached a value close to half a million dollars, with an average price of more than US$61 per kilogram, equivalent to US$2,500 per quintal, reflecting the growing prestige of Peruvian coffee in specialized markets.

Added to this is innovation in post-harvest processes in production areas, which – according to Fundes – is steadily raising the quality of Peruvian coffee.

CAFETERIAS NATIONWIDE

Growth is also expressed in the domestic market. Today, more than 500 coffee shops nationwide generate an annual turnover of more than US$100 million, create more than 4,000 jobs and have become the engine of innovation and development of the specialty coffee industry.

Baristas, tasters, roasters and young professionals are the protagonists of this transformation, accompanied by training, certification and national competition programs that strengthen the positioning of Peruvian coffee in the world.

Looking ahead, the goal is clear.

“Today, Peru occupies fourth place as an exporter of specialty coffees, but our goal is to position it as the first in the world,” says Geni Fundes.

In parallel, the national industry continues to be strengthened, promoting domestic consumption and consolidating a sustainable value chain, where producers have access to fair and lasting profitability. That is, he emphasizes, the supreme objective of Peruvian coffee.
