Data from the State Secretariat of Public Security of São Paulo (SSP-SP) reveal that between January and October 2025, 53 cases of femicide were recorded in the capital of São Paulo. This is the highest annual index since 2018, even without counting the months of November and December.
Across the state of São Paulo, 207 femicides were recorded between January and October this year. In the same period last year, there were 191. An increase, therefore, of 8% considering the first ten months of the year.
The crime of femicide was defined in federal law in March 2015. From then on, the cases began to be counted separately from other types of homicide. The law considers feminicide when the murder involves domestic and family violence, and disregard or discrimination against the victim’s status as a woman. Penalties for the crime range from 12 to 30 years in prison.
According to SSP-SP data, in 2025, the capital surpassed the number of cases from all previous years, even without counting November and December.

Fight
In a note, the SSP-SP said that combating violence against women is a priority for the state government and that the secretariat maintains several initiatives focused on the issue, including Cabine Lilás, which has already provided around 14 thousand services to women victims of violence throughout the State of São Paulo.
The project, initially implemented in the capital, was expanded to Greater São Paulo and the interior, with units in the regions of Campinas, São José dos Campos, Bauru, São José do Rio Preto, Sorocaba, Presidente Prudente and Piracicaba.
“Created in an unprecedented way within the scope of the Military Police Operations Center (Copom), Cabine Lilás offers humanized care by female police officers trained to welcome and guide victims of domestic violence. The agents provide information on protective measures, reporting channels and support services, in addition to dispatching vehicles when necessary”, he explained.
According to the SSP-SP, there are 142 territorial Women’s Defense Police Stations (DDMs) in the state and 24-hour DDM rooms, which were expanded by 174.1%, with 170 spaces on police duty, so that victims can be attended to via videoconference by a female police officer.
