During 2022, Cuba registered 13 earthquakes perceptible that reflect a period in ranges of “normality with nuances in their behavior”, according to a summary of the National Seismological Service (SSN).
However, a total of 6647 were the movements registered by the specialists, as pointed out by a report of Latin Pressto (PL) that part of the report issued by said department, attached to the National Center for Seismological Research.

The Santiago-Baconao area was the one with the “greatest activity”, with 1,468 tremors, while Camagüey-Cubitas was the “most energetic”.
Most of the events took place in areas of seismic activity related to the Oriente fault, specialists point out.
The largest earthquake was recorded north of Las Tunas. It had a magnitude of 5.0 on the Richter scale and was located 60 kilometers from Puerto Padre. Some 430 telluric movements followed.
Earthquakes were also recorded in the central and western regions, although with magnitudes less than 3.0.
The specialists emphasized monitoring seismicity in the southwestern area of Haiti, due to its proximity to Cuba. This area experienced about 2,200 earthquakes of different magnitudes.
With the exception of Pinar and Bahamas Norte, whose behavior was considered normal, the 11 remaining seismic activity zones of the SSN maintained a high assessment.
The network of stations added a new one in the city of Havana, according to the PL report.
