Some 200 tourists who remained stranded in the town of Machu Picchu due to protests in Peru were evacuated this Saturday by trainafter the repair of part of the railway that had been blocked by protesters, confirmed AFP.
The train reached a sector near the town of Piscacucho, in the Cusco region (south), where a huge rock prevented the passage. From there, tourists, including North Americans and Europeansthey walked about 2 kilometers to board vehicles that will take you to the city of Cusco, where there is an international airport.
The demonstrators demand the freedom of the ousted president Pedro Castillo, the resignation of Dina Boluarte, the closure of Parliament and immediate general elections.
The Ombudsman of that country reported this Saturday more than 70 roads blocked, and mobilizations in Ayacucho (south), Cusco and Puno (southeast) and Junín (center). There were also marches for peace in some towns and clashes with the police in Arequipa (south).
