20 years in prison for Argenis Contreras for the death of Yuniol Ramírez

The judges of the Second Collegiate Court of the National District Claribel Nivar Arias, Yissel Soto and Clara Sobeida Castillo handed down a sentence of 20 years in prison to Argenis Contreras for the death of the jurist Yuniol Ramirez.

Contreras will serve prison at the Najayo Correction and Rehabilitation Center. While the former administrator of the OMSAManuel Rivas was discharged by the judges.

Almost five years had the courts studying the death case of the university professor Yuniol Ramírez, for alleged allegations of corruption in the Metropolitan Office of Bus Services (Omsa).

In that order, in favor of Víctor Ravelo Campos and José Antonio Mercado Blanco, alias El Grande, they were released from prison and released.

The court said that the wife of Argenis Contreras, Heidy Carolina Peña, that complicity in the murder could not be determined and was discharged.

Likewise, Lilian Francisca Suárez Jáquez and Jorge Luis Abreu Fabián (El Taxista) were discharged due to insufficient evidence.

The magistrates, who began the deliberation on Monday, began to detail the initial issues of the judicial process, from the measure of coercion to the trial stage. When they finished reading what they had decided on each of the eight defendants, they would announce the final decision.

In their motivations, they indicated that “Argenis Contreras was the person who caused the death of Yuniol Ramírez and proceeded to hide the body”, in October 2017.

Ramírez, who presided over the National Convergence of Lawyers, was found dead with a concrete block tied to his neck by a chain, in a stream in West Santo Domingo.

The arguments of the judges continued to be made at the close of this edition and it was assumed that they would finish motivating in the early hours of the morning, due to the lack of explanations from the other defendants.
