20 months after the collapse of Line 12, the Mixcoac-Atlalilco section reopens

20 months after the collapse of Line 12, the Mixcoac-Atlalilco section reopens

“The elevated section of Line 12 continues to be worked on very arduously, each of the sections between column and column -which are more than 250- requires a special executive project: everything that the elaboration of the pieces means is already finished and is now in the assembly process,” he added.

The president boarded, together with the Secretary of Government, Martí Batres, as well as other officials from her cabinet and the media, one of the first trains with passengers that left the Mixcoac station, around 10:20 a.m.

The section that transports passengers again goes from the Mixcoac terminal, with connection to Line 7, to Atlalilco, with correspondence to Line 8 of the Metro. While the section from Culhuacán to the Tláhuac terminal continues to be closed.

The journey from point to point will take about 20 minutes and it is estimated that the average waiting time on the platforms between each train will be 3 minutes and 15 seconds.

Although the underground section was not affected by the collapse that occurred more than a year and a half ago, the capital’s government carried out rehabilitation work and safety reviews such as the rectification of seven curves and an assessment of the trains with running simulation, tests dynamics and certifications, assured the general director of the Metro, Guillermo Calderón.

The conditions of the underground section were evaluated by the Metro Advisory Council and the company TÜV Rheinland.

“It is a tunnel structure that was reviewed under the strictest protocols by the College of Engineers, the Institute for Construction Safety and is in extraordinary safety conditions and protected for any earthquake or ground movement situation,” he added. .

Sheinbaum defended his decision to entrust more than 6,000 elements of the National Guard with security within the capital’s Metro and denied that it was a militarization.

“For all those who say that this is a militarization of the Metro, it is absolutely false. The National Guard is an institution of our country and it is so false that the elements of the National Guard are not even armed,” he said.
