20 men residing in the East Panama sector opted for vasectomy as their family planning method. The citizens, who are part of the Vasectomy day that began this morning at the Chepo Hospital, are patients who have already had two or more children.
The first lady of the Republic, Yazmín Colón de Cortizo, who inaugurated this day, assured that they have implemented this day because it is a safe and less invasive planning method than a salpingectomy (final female sterilization).
He added that the procedure is outpatient, which allows the patient to return to work immediately.
The director of the Social Security Fund, Enrique Lau Cortéz, explained that vasectomy in men is the equivalent of salpingectomy in women and consists of blocking the transit of sperm so that they do not come out, and interrupting the fertilization of the egg. .
He explained that to participate in the day, men must go voluntarily, sign a consent and then tell them when they should go to carry out the process. He said that these days will be extended to other areas of the country gradually.
