2-3: Sao Paulo beats Peruvian Ayacucho at home

Sao Paulo won this Thursday at the National Stadium in Lima by 2-3 against Ayacucho with goals from Robert Arboleda, Miranda and Luciano, and assumed the leadership of Group D of the South American Cup after the first day.

The group led by Rogério Ceni controlled a game in which the Peruvian team relentlessly sought to get at least one point.

The group is completed by the Bolivian Wilstermann and the Chilean Everton, who debuted with a 1-1 draw.

Peruvians and Brazilians played intensely in the first half and after 3 minutes the visitors went ahead with a goal from Ecuadorian Robert Arboleda who finished off with the right foot, after a corner kick by striker Luciano.

However, 4 minutes later, on the counterattack, the Argentine Eric Barrios equalized from the center of the area after receiving the assistance of the Uruguayan Cristian Techera.

Once again, Techera appeared in front of the Sao Paulo goal and scored the second for the Foxes from a direct free kick into the center of Tiago Volpi’s goal, 20 minutes into the game.

The local formation stepped on the accelerator in search of the tie. At 23 minutes, Miranda headed the goal to the center of the goal after a corner kick by Joao Moreira.

In the second half, physical exhaustion took its toll on both teams.

In the final minutes, Sao Paulo regained control of the ball and offensive actions through Reinaldo and Jonas Toró.

The pressure took effect 2 minutes from the end of regulation time.

A penalty taken by Luciano gave Sao Paulo the win. The foul was caused by Aldair Salazar, who received the second yellow card and was sent off.

The venue for the meeting was moved from the city of Cusco to Lima and was played without an audience due to the social and political turmoil that the country is facing as a result of a truckers’ strike against the Pedro Castillo government that has lasted ten days.

Ayacucho will visit Wilstermann on the second date, while Sao Paulo will host Everton.
