2-1: Libertad prevails in an intense match

The Paraguayan Freedom won this Wednesday in Asunción by 2-1 Caracasin an intense match of the second day of group B of the Libertadores Cup who leads with four points. Repollero from the Paraguayan capital prevailed with goals from Óscar Cardozo, minute 3, and Lorenzo Melgarejo, in minute 34. Ghanaian winger Kwaku Bonsu Osei scored for the Venezuelan team, in minute 20.

In a close first half, Cardozo surprised with an early goal, after taking advantage of a ball that Alain Baroja half-cleared and left served for the lanky Paraguayan striker.

With the score in favor, Libertad was encouraged to advance towards the rival area, where Caracas was not willing to give up space.

Provisional parity was achieved by Osei, after sending a pass from Eduardo Ferreira to the back of the net. However, a header from Melgarejo put the lock on the scoreboard early, although it did not calm things down.

Thus, the first half ended with four warnings: Rubert Quijada, Osei and Fereira, by the Venezuelan club, as well as Bautista Merlini, by Libertad. Edson Castillo, also from Caracas, saw a yellow card in the second half.

Gumarelo was not discouraged after the break and rehearsed a couple of arrivals, which their visitor responded with attempts from the wings. The last quarter of the commitment was heart attack. Both the local team and the visitor staged dangerous plays that made the stands vibrate.

With this result, Libertad, who came from a 1-1 draw with the Bolivian The Strongest, accumulates 4 points and is the provisional leader of Group B.

The Venezuelan club kept the unity it achieved on the first date at home, when it tied 0-0 with the Brazilian Athletico Paranaense.

The other members of this group, The Strongest and Paranaense, will face each other this Thursday. The match was played at the Defensores del Chaco stadium in Asunción, under the leadership of Argentine referee Facundo Tello.
