2-1: Inter’s comeback leaves Palmeiras without a wing

International won this Wednesday by 2-1 to Ceará with a heroic comeback, he maintained the mathematical chances of overtaking the leader and prevented the palm trees will celebrate the title of the Brazilian Championship four days in advance.

Palmeiras, who have been leading the League in isolation for several weeks and maintain a 10-point lead over Internacional, their immediate escort, had all the conditions to become champions this Wednesday, but Inter spoiled the party.

The champion of the last two editions of the Copa Libertadores beat Athletico Paranaense 1-3 on Tuesday in their match on the thirty-fourth day of the League and depended on Internacional and Corinthians suffering setbacks in their Wednesday commitments to raise the cup.

Despite the fact that Corinthians collaborated by losing 0-2 at home against Fluminense and saying goodbye to the chances of catching up with the leader, Inter did not succumb and, despite starting from a disadvantage, managed to come from behind and keep their dream alive.

With four games remaining to conclude the tournament, Palmeiras now needs a victory in any of its commitments to win the Brazilian Championship for the eleventh time and confirm itself as the club with the highest number of League titles.

The green club, commanded by the Portuguese Abel Ferreira, will have the first chance to win the title next Wednesday, when they host Fortaleza at home. A win by any score or a setback for Inter in their visit to America on the same day will guarantee the party.

Inter, now the only one left with a chance of snatching the title from Palmeiras, needs to win the four remaining games and hope that the São Paulo team loses theirs to be crowned champion.

In their match this Wednesday, Inter was surprised at home by Ceará who scored a penalty goal in the first minute of the game, with a perfect charge from Lima, and who knew how to manage their partial advantage throughout the first half.

Despite the pressure and dominance of the Colorado team, Ceará was closed in defense and almost managed to increase the score in a counterattack by Vina.

Inter only managed to equalize in the 19th minute of the second half after captain Edenilson took advantage of an assist from Uruguayan Carlos da Pena.

The Porto Alegre side cheered on the draw, increased the pressure on Ceará and came from behind thanks to a penalty scored after Luis Otavio touched the ball with his arm inside the box 10 minutes from time. Alan Patrick charged perfectly, put Inter ahead 2-1 and frustrated the party that Palmeiras was already preparing.

Corinthians, the other that still dreamed of the title, suffered a severe setback at home when they fell 0-2 against Fluminense, with a brace from Argentine Germán Cano, and fell to fifth place in the standings, with 57 points, 17 units from Palmeiras.

Corinthians, who needed to beat Goiás on Wednesday and Saturday in a pending game, lost Gustavo Mosquito due to injury in the first minute of the game and had to rethink their entire game.

The situation got even more complicated in the 11th minute when Germán Cano opened the scoring for Fluminense.

Despite playing in their fort, the Arena Corinthians stadium, the locals had difficulty stopping a Fluminense team that remained in attack, mainly with Cano and Colombian Jhon Arias.

The Rio de Janeiro tricolor kept up the pressure in the second half and narrowly increased the score in the 20th minute, but a Matheus goal was annulled for offside. But five minutes later Cano took advantage of an assist from Calegari to extend Fluminense’s lead to 2-0.

The goal isolated Cano at the top of the scorers’ table, with 20 goals, and already established him as the foreigner with the highest number of goals in an edition of the League in Brazil.
