19 Cubans arrive in Florida and are taken into custody by the Border Patrol

A group of 19 Cuban rafters disembarked this Wednesday in the coastal city of Key Colony Beach, Florida. None of the crew members of the precarious vessel, which they called the benao (sic) I have the impression that the rest of the sign is covered with tarpaulins]he presented injuries, according to Walter Slosar, head of the US Border Patrol.

This arrival occurs after the Coast Guard announced the death of 10 Cubans as a result of the sinking of a raft 50 miles from Little Torch Key, which occurred last Saturday. “ four people drowned after the capsize of the boat,” detailed the maritime safety unit.

The Coast Guard specified that the ship’s crew paul valent rescued nine people and found one more lifeless body on the same Saturday, another five bodies were located between Sunday and Monday by rescue teams.

One of these rafters was rescued on Saturday and it was he who said that he left the island in a group on November 13, without specifying the number of people. They set sail from Jaimanitas beach, in Havana, but the boat did not hold out and sank a few miles from Florida and only he survived.

When he thought he would die, he was helped by another raft with 18 Cubans, some of whom were wearing life jackets, but that second boat also sank. Richard Armstrong, deputy commander of the Border Patrol in the Key West sector, indicated that these trips entail great danger, due to the climatic situation of the Florida Straits and the lack of security equipment.

This Tuesday the Coast Guard repatriated 185 Cubans on the ship Venturious. The group was made up of migrants from 12 different groups, who were denied asylum in the US. As usual, Captain Ben Golightly of Coast Guard District 7 warned that any rafters caught at sea will be returned to their country of origin.

Golightly urged in a statement Cubans not to risk sailing in rustic and unsafe boats. “Help us by not paying smugglers and promoting safe and legal migration,” he pleaded.

Since October 1, 2022, Coast Guard crews have intercepted 2,243 Cubans.

Regarding the border with Mexico, the agents once again prevented the entry of Fernando Ángel Álvarez Robaina, owner of the studio where the opposition musicians Maykel recorded their songs. osorbo Castle, the funkyPatriot Squad and Eliexer Márquez.

“He surrendered at the border twice and they deport him to Mexico,” exposed on Facebookhis father, Ferandno Álvarez, the first time was on November 16 and then he tried again on the 19th. “They have never made fear credible and what more proof than to make that type of songs in Cuba, where many are imprisoned for that I don’t understand how credible fear doesn’t allow my son who was always hot,” he lamented.
