More than 40,000 people from all over the country will participate.

With the presence of the National Director of Education, Gonzalo Baroni, and under the motto “Curiosity moves us”, the presentation of the 18th Science and Technology Week was held at LATU. The initiative includes 152 outreach activities, in more than 33 conferences, involving 69 institutions in 100 locations throughout the country. It is expected that 40,000 people will participate, 80% students.

Baroni was accompanied at the presentation, held this Tuesday the 23rd at the Espacio Ciencia of the Technological Laboratory of Uruguay (LATU), the president of the entity, Ruperto Long, and the representative of the organizing commission, Mariana Pereyra.

“This initiative became a State policy, which transcended all the governments of the last 18 years,” Baroni considered, in dialogue with Presidential Communication.

He especially highlighted the inter-institutional work of the 19 public organizations that make up the commission and that allow, year after year and uninterruptedly, to carry out the largest event of scientific dissemination in Uruguay. Almost 40,000 people are expected to attend, 80% students, he said.

He also valued the experience, as an example of decentralization, since it covers 100 localities in the national territory and enables the entire community to access scientific and technological activities.

Long assured that the organization’s mission is for the quality of Uruguay’s products and services to progress more and more, which requires added knowledge. “This is a key component for the country’s development,” Long stressed.

The objectives of the event also include contributing to the process of scientific literacy of the population and achieving a greater understanding of science, with emphasis on its impact on people’s daily lives.

In its 18th edition, it is planned to carry out 152 dissemination activities, in more than 33 days, involving 69 institutions. Among the main ones are talks, workshops, demonstrations in educational centers and open days with scientific and technological institutions from all over the country.
