Chilpancingo, Gro., Ejidatarios of the Cuatro Cruces community in the municipality of Ajuchitlán del Progreso, located in the Tierra Caliente region of Guerrero, planted 18 thousand pine and oak trees to reforest their lands, which until a few years ago were poppy plantations.

The project, promoted by the Union of Hermenegildo Galeana Forest Ejidos, has already been authorized by the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (Semarnat), with support from the National Commission of Protected Natural Areas and the National Forestry Commission.

The ejido commissioner of Cuatro Cruces, José Natividad Rosas Delgado, recalled that he and his colleagues, as part of the Union of Ejidos Hermenegildo Galeana, seek to improve the forests and recalled that four years ago that area was set on fire by unknown persons.

He stressed that they arrived in the area Initially, 30 ejidatarios, but it is expected that at least 60 will join the reforestation work; we set a limit of until the month of September.

For his part, Jorge Rojas, advisor to the Cuatro Cruces ejido, said that they are seeking to recover this region and that the ejido is committed to Semarnat. He added that They barely gave us the management program; in reality there is interest from the fellow ejidatarios in the rescue of the forests.

Meanwhile, the secretary of the ejido, Juan José Rojas, commented that The planting of trees is to combat drought, in addition to the fact that the ejido is within the protected area of the biosphere in the Sierra Tecuani.

In this area of Tierra Caliente, in addition to protecting the forests We also protect endangered animals such as the jaguar and other species, and if that were not enough, we have water currents that go to both the Tierra Caliente region and the Costa Grande, in addition to the fact that the planting of narcotics has already ended..

The Union of Ejidos, which has a presence in the municipalities of Coyuca de Catalán, Ajuchitlán del Progreso, and San Miguel Totolapan, in Tierra Caliente, as well as in Atoyac de Álvarez and Tecpan de Galeana, prohibits the planting of poppies, and is implementing a reforestation project in support of the fight against climate change.
