After participating in a Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM) project contest, at least 18 Panamanian high school and university students were selected to travel to the Emirates from March 8 to 16 United Arab Emirates and there participate in the Dubai Expo.
According to the Minister of Education, Maruja Gorday de Villalobos, these students are of academic excellence because, in addition to their projects, they were chosen based on their performance. She stated that in this event the students will have the opportunity to be in contact with advances in science, technology, innovation, art and culture, companies and enterprises from 192 countries.
This year Expo Dubai has as its motto “connecting our minds and building the future” through sustainability, mobility and opportunity.
The First Lady of the Republic, Yazmín Colón de Cortizo, stated that the 18 students who will go to the Dubai Expo “are young people who have won that trip for their careers, for having participated, they become ambassadors of Panama.” And he stressed that it is not only the trip that these students obtain, but also the experience that they are going to take with them, since they will see all kinds of programs and will understand the importance of preparing for the robotics Olympics that will be held soon in Panama.
“With all my heart, I congratulate you and I am sure that after this experience you will return to develop even more innovative projects, thus elevating STEAM education in Panama,” said the First Lady.
Colón de Cortizo also referred to the beginning of the school year, assuring that “the happiness of seeing our students return to the classroom is like an awakening and nothing replaces face-to-face classes, but all in all, let’s see what we have been able to learn how country is that we have to look forward and never forget that the best social equalizer is education and that approach is what we have to take”.
