A report from the MOPC Bridge Maintenance Directorate highlights that the repair structural of the bridge will be divided into three stages: the first will consist of the cleaning of all the structure metallic.

The report highlights that after knowing the general condition of the bridgewill proceed to design a protection systemreinforcement and/or substitution of all the elements that do not meet the required thicknesses, to update the bridge to the current freight train.
He bridge of 17, one of the six structures that connect the National District and the Santo Domingo province and which was put into use in 1973, has corrosion and level of deterioration due to lack of maintenance.
It highlights the fact that the only maintenance to which the bridge of 17 is to repair a hole in the pavement.
Faced with this situation, the MOPC proceeded to visually evaluate its superstructure and some points critics oxidation of the pieces that make up the armor, such as the knots structural splice of the brace, loss of section in the plates of the nodes, supports, debris, sediment and grass in the nodes and lower rigidity cord.
In addition, inspection of the elements structuraldeck, stringers and transverse beams, reinforcement elements, connections, supports, reinforced concrete columns, prestressed concrete and metal beam, and braces.
Recommendations
In the structure of concrete, the recommendation is to perform studies pathologies of the concrete of the slab, to determine the causes of degradation in some sections, and thus predict future damage when placing the new slab.
The MOPC recommends the design and construction of new expansion joints, carry out a total cleaning of the bridge extracting pieces, debris, weeds, sand, etc., found in the beams and knots of the structure.
Also, measure the thickness of the elements once the system cleaning the structure metallic, whether mechanical or manual, to validate their current dimensions; repair and substitution of some metal pieces and elements, knots in state of advanced oxidation and that present loss of section (beams, channels, angles, bars, plates, etc.).
In addition, repair in fixings (screws, rivets and welding), repair of support devices, preparation of metal surface with a good anchor profile (removal of slag and rust) to application of system of protection of paint.
Application of system of protection of epoxy paint, with application of primer as a first coat and then a final paint with high zinc content and protection UV, reconstruction of expansion joints, painting general of railings and wheel guard walls, vertical or horizontal signage, and lighting.
Likewise, design of system of access for maintenance (movable carriage under the dashboard, mainly in the central opening).
