17-month-old baby dies in Yaracuy from ingesting diesel

Cicpc offers a reward of $100,000 for information about Edmundo González

A baby of just one year and five months old, identified as Acnael Leal León, died after ingesting diesel in his home, located in the Copa Redonda sector, in Sabana de Parra, Páez municipality, Yaracuy state, local media reported.

According to the authorities’ report, it was learned that the incident allegedly occurred when the minor’s mother was bathing him and, in a quick oversight, the baby grabbed a glass that was on the floor and had the aforementioned fuel in it and drank it.

The woman, upon realizing what the child had drunk, immediately took him to a local health center for medical attention. However, due to the minor’s complications, he was transferred to the Niño Jesús Pediatric Hospital in San Felipe, where he unfortunately died last Tuesday night.

According to the statements of the relatives, the fuel was in the bathroom because apparently they were using it as lubricant to accommodate a lock that had been damaged.

After the tragic event, which shocked the community of the Yaracuyana population, the child’s mother is under investigation by officials of the Scientific, Criminal and Criminal Investigation Corps (Cicpc), to clarify what happened, while the body of the minor was transferred to the headquarters of the National Service of Medicine and Forensic Sciences (Senamefc) for rigorous evaluations.
