Madrid Spain.- The United States Coast Guard (USCG) repatriated 163 Cuban rafters on September 4.
The Caribbean nationals, intercepted in several operations off the coast of Florida, were returned to the island by Coast Guardsmen Charles David Jr. and William Trump, according to the USCG through its social network account. Twitter.
Four of the five boats in which these Cuban migrants were traveling were detained on August 31: one 23 miles south of Key West; another 16 miles south of Long Key; the third 2 miles south of Boca Chica Key; and the last 40 miles south of Stock Island.
While on Thursday another boat was intercepted about 32 miles south of Islamorada.

So far this fiscal year (October 2021 through August 2022), the United States Coast Guard has repatriated more than 5,000 Cubans; a figure that constitutes a record in the exodus to the US; surpassing the Mariel crisisin 1980, and that of the rafters in 1994.
This Sunday the United States Embassy in Havana published a statement to alert rafters about reinforcing surveillance in the Straits of Florida, with the aim of “dissuading, preventing and responding to illegal maritime migration”.
According to the document, “individuals attempting to enter the country illegally by sea will be intercepted and must await repatriation to their country of origin or the country from which they departed, in accordance with the laws, policies, and international treaty obligations of the United States.” USA”.
