15 more suspects arrested for participation in attacks in RN

In Rio Grande do Norte, 15 suspected of leading or participating in the criminal organization responsible for violent attacks were arrested. This Thursday (23) the state reached the tenth day under criminal actions, with fires and shots at public buildings and vehicles. 15 more suspects arrested for participation in attacks in RN

The arrests took place within the scope of Operation Sentinel, launched by the State Public Prosecutor’s Office, with the support of the National Force, Federal Police, Federal Highway Police and State Department of Penitentiary Administration.

Eight arrest warrants and 26 search and seizure warrants were carried out in ten municipalities. Five people were not found and are now considered outlaws.

According to the Ministry of Justice, most of the prisoners already had convictions for organized crime, drug trafficking, robbery and homicide. Some were serving sentences in the semi-open regime, using electronic anklets, and violated monitoring during the attacks.

The police seized weapons, drugs, cell phones, money and documents. The inmates were taken to state penitentiaries.

Two new attacks were confirmed this Thursday in Lagoa Nova and Natal. In the first, in the interior of the state, a school bus and a tractor were set on fire. The criminals fled.

In the Potiguar capital, criminals set fire to a pumping station belonging to the Water and Sewage Company.

The attacks began on the 14th of this month, and already amount to more than 200 in several cities. National Force agents were sent to reinforce public security in the state. Reinforcement should exceed more than 800 men.

The federal government announced more than R$ 100 million in investment in 2023 to expand penitentiaries, double the number of vehicles, purchase cameras for use by police officers and x-ray equipment in the state.
