Deivison Rocha Dantas, aged 13, died this Thursday (29) after being attacked by a shark on Del Chifre beach, in Olinda, Pernambuco. The teenager was playing with friends in the sea when he suffered a bite on the back of his right thigh, at around 2:20 pm.
The teenager was removed from the water and received first aid from people who were at the scene. He was then taken to the Tricentenary Hospital.
According to the medical team, the teenager had a cardiorespiratory arrest and arrived at the medical service dead.
“He had a very extensive lesion on his right thigh, the location of the arteries that supply the lower limbs, and as the injury was quite extensive, he probably lost a lot of blood”, explained the doctor who treated the boy, Levi Dailton.
The region is known for its history of shark attacks. With this case, there are already six incidents recorded on this stretch.. With Deivison’s death, Pernambuco reaches 27 shark deaths, in a total of 82 incidents recorded since 1992.
Almost three years ago there were no records of attacks on the state’s borders. Currently, the area is unmonitored. Earlier this year, the Shark Incident Monitoring Committee issued a notice to resume this work.
