During the first quarter of the year, 6,787,480 foreigners of 25 nationalities from the European Union, Asia, Central and South America entered the country by plane, that is, 124 percent more foreign travelers than last year. The most recent records of the Datur platform, of the Ministry of Tourism (Sectur), indicate that in this period the air terminals that received the largest number of visitors were Cancun, Mexico City, Los Cabos, Puerto Vallarta, Guadalajara, Cozumel and Monterey, to name a few.

The first place is occupied by the arrival of citizens from the United States, with 4 million 280 thousand 239 visitors, 85 percent more than in 2021. They are followed by those from Canada, with 685 thousand 920 travelers; Colombia, with 254 thousand 725; United Kingdom, with 159,776 (819.6 percent more than last year); France, 116 thousand 252; Argentina, with 105 thousand 373, and Spain, 97 thousand 649, that is to say 177.6 more in relation to 2021. From Russia 38 thousand 11 citizens entered and from Ukraine, 37 thousand 132.

Other air entries of foreign visitors by nationality were Brazil, Germany, Peru, Chile, Costa Rica, Venezuela, Netherlands (Holland), Cuba, Italy, Poland, India, Guatemala, Switzerland, El Salvador, China and Belgium.

3 million 326 thousand 338 foreigners arrived through the Cancun airport, that is, 47 percent of the total number of visitors during this period. They are followed by Mexico City, with 18 percent, that is, one million 221 thousand 183; Los Cabos, with 748 thousand 188; Puerto Vallarta, with 656 thousand 634, and Guadalajara, with 331 thousand 49.

For its part, the Mexican Institute of Transportation (IMT) indicated that the average price of a liter of jet fuel during April of this year was 20.6 pesos, which meant an increase of 9.9 percent compared to last March. Likewise, it reported that during April 2022, 9 million passengers were transported -4.75 million on domestic flights and 4.25 million on international flights-, which represented an increase of 50 percent compared to April 2021.

It should be remembered that the Mexico City International Airport (AICM) announced a few weeks ago that as of June 12, the United States health authorities will no longer require passengers entering that country to have a negative test for covid-19 or documentation of recovery from said illness before boarding your flight.
