HAVANA, Cuba.- The 11J protester Iván Hernández Troya, 26, suffered forced disappearance and received brutal beatings in various detention centers, according to his father, Iván Hernández Mora, in a conversation with CubaNet.
The young man, currently a captive in the Guanajay prison, was arrested on July 11, 2021 during the popular uprising that occurred in the country on that day. According to what Hernández Mora revealed, for several weeks he did not know the whereabouts of his son, and it was not until more than three months had passed and after filing a strong complaint with the Prosecutor’s Office that they allowed him to speak with him.
Iván Hernández Mora said that after 16 or 17 days they gave him a cleaning visit, but without allowing him to see him even on the pretext of COVID-19. The father of the young man also assured that the first face-to-face visit did not take place until another week had passed, and with extreme restrictions of not establishing physical contact under threat of suspending the meeting.
On that occasion, he says, the young man revealed to him that both at the Artemisa police station and at the Cuatro Caminos Technician, in Guanajay, they had beaten him using tonfas, even around his temples, which had caused spills in his eyes. and injuries to the ribs and hips.
Hernández Mora pointed out that during that period he was summoned on more than one occasion by police officers to threaten him with arrest if he caused problems or drew attention to his son’s case.

According to this Cuban father, the three-day trial was plagued with threats and prohibitions. He also stressed that the result was decided in advance. With a prosecutor’s request for nine years in prison for the alleged crimes of public disorder and contempt, Iván Hernández Troya was finally sentenced to six years in prison.
Twelve other protesters, all from Artemisa, were also tried in the same process.
