MÉRIDA, Mexico – 11J prisoner Fernando Eloy González Herrera said he has not yet received medical attention despite the fact that the carcinoma of the tongue he was diagnosed with nine months ago is progressing rapidly.
Imprisoned in the Canaleta prison in Ciego de Ávila, González Herrera had to be transferred to the Morón hospital due to complications from his tongue cancer, reported Marti News.
“Everyone knows it, I have had this problem for nine months and I have not been treated as I should have been and now it has gained strength to the point where it has eaten away at the tip of my tongue and half of my sides and they do not want to take me to surgery,” said González Herrera by telephone from the hospital in conversation with independent journalist Adriano Castañeda.
González Herrera, sentenced to 9 years in prison for his participation in the protests, blamed the top authorities in Canaleta for the worsening of his illness.
The 36-year-old man was convicted of the crimes of assault, contempt and public disorder after his participation in The social outbreak of July 11 of 2021 in Ciego de Ávila.
Adriano Castaneda explained to Marti News This is the first time that we have heard of the situation of this political prisoner.
“This is the first time he has been contacted to make his situation known. He is one of the many prisoners of July 11 whose current situation was not really known,” he said.
Castañeda said that this political prisoner has been manipulated by the prison authorities and that his state of health reveals a total disregard on their part for the health of the prisoners.
“He says he fears for his life and well, they had to take him to the prison ward at the hospital, because it seems they saw that the situation was very complicated, but they have not really moved quickly,” he explained.
