11J political prisoner goes on hunger strike in Kilo 8 prison

Yadir Ayala Ibáñez, preso político

Havana Cuba. – Political prisoner Yadir Ayala Ibáñez, one of the protesters of the July 11, 2021 (J11) in the province of Camagüey, he has been on a hunger strike for six days in the maximum security prison of Kilo 8, as reported to CubaNet another inmate of that prison.

According to this source, Yadir is in a punishment cell and has not eaten food as a protest.

The young man from Camagüey was sentenced last January to 10 years in prison for the crimes of public disorder and assault for his participation in the 11J protests in La Vigía.

That day, Yadir and other youths threw stones and crates of rubbish at police patrols.

Mirka Ibáñez Morales, mother of Yadir, recently denounced through the Cuban Observatory of Human Rights (OCDH) the punishments imposed on her son in the Kilo 8 prison for revealing in an audio that an agent of the regime had tried to blackmail him.

“They have suspended his phone (…) and they won’t let him call, they took him out of the detachment where he was and transferred him to detachment eight,” Mirka told the OCDH.

Recently, that non-governmental organization also published an audio of Yadir in which the political prisoner revealed that a State Security lieutenant colonel had interrogated and extorted him.

“This subject expressed his dislike for my publications, but that there was a possibility that my sanction would be adjusted to six years of deprivation of liberty; in other words, the high official tried to negotiate with me”, Yadir recounted on that occasion.

Two other 11J political prisoners are currently incarcerated in the Kilo 8 prison: Jorge Alexis Agüero Gómez and Ramón Enrique Montero Meriño. All three, including Yadir, are sentenced to 10 years in prison.
