10 FARC dissidents die in military operation in Caquetá

Ten guerrillas from a dissidence of the FARC died in a joint operation of the Colombian Military Forces and Police in San Vicente del Caguánin the southern department of Caquetá, where “abundant war material” was also seized, the Army reported this Sunday.

The operation was carried out in the village of Santa Rita against two camps of the First Structure “Armando Rivers“of the dissidences of the FARCwhose main ringleader is Néstor Gregorio Vera Fernández, known by the alias of Iván Mordisco, one of the most wanted guerrillas in the country.

“After the operation, the competent authorities are carrying out the urgent acts and the subsequent transfer to legal medicine of the deceased, in order to determine the identities, sex and ages of those who were in the place“, indicated a statement from the Armed Forces.

Material that the guerrillas “used to intimidate the civilian population in the area and plan the terrorist actions that they would execute against Colombians, the Public Force and the infrastructure of the State,” the information added.

The authorities attribute to this group the crimes of illicit financing through drug trafficking, extortion, kidnapping, illicit recruitment of minors and indigenous people, as well as the murder of social leaders and ex-combatants and constraint against the population residing in the departments of Caquetá, Guaviare and Meta.

He is also held responsible for the kidnapping of 17 members of a medical mission in December 2019 in the department of Guaviare and the attack with explosives last February against the Pantano de Vargas Infantry Battalion No. 21, located in Granada (Meta), which cost the life of a member of the Army and a civilian.

This illegal armed group is also held responsible for the murder of nine soldiers in the rural area of ​​San José del Guaviare in July 2021.

The Military Forces also indicated that this dissidence did not take advantage of the peace agreement signed in November 2016 by the Colombian Government and the FARCand that since 2017 has been in conflict with other similar groups, mainly with the “Second Marquetalia” led by alias “Iván Márquez”to expand their territorial control.
