Today, ten congressmen from the so-called ‘teacher block’ presented their irrevocable resignation from the ruling caucus of Free Peru after the full Congress elect the six new members of the constitutional Court.
They are parliamentarians Alex Paredes, Edgar Tello, Paúl Gutiérrez, Francis Paredes, Elizabeth Hermosilla, Pasión Dávila, Segundo Quiroz, Germán Tacuri, Katy Ugarte and Lucinda Vásquez.
This was confirmed by legislator Katy Ugarte, who specified to Peru21 who had already been analyzing it since before this day. “We have a political project and based on that we are making this decision,” he said.
“The only person we spoke to is spokesman Waldemar Cerrón, whom we thanked for the space he gave us to participate in politics. He respected our decision,” he added.
For his part, the also resigning Germán Tacuri limited himself to pointing out that his resignation was due to “reasons of conscience” and specified that the decision was made after evaluating different issues.
With the 10 confirmed casualties, Peru Libre went from having 32 to 22 members, with which they cease to be the first force in the current Parliament 2021 – 2026, giving this position to the Fuerza Popular bench that has 24 members.
