The organizations stress that the National Commission for Primary Education faces a dilemma that revolves around holding the elections with technical and logistical support from the National Electoral Council (CNE) or organizing them without the participation of the entity and its electoral infrastructure.
A total of 10 civil organizations signed a document in which they give their support to the work of the National Primary Commission and the decisions that they may announce for the primary election process, to be held on October 22 of this year, to define a unitary candidate to participate in the 2023 presidential elections representing the opposition.
The group of organizations made up of political activists highlights the context in which these primaries take place, much more complex than the last time this process was carried out, in 2012 to elect a candidate to face Hugo Chávez in the presidential elections of that same year. anus.
In this sense, they reason that they understand the complexities when it comes to reaching agreements in a mass as homogeneous as the one that makes up the current opposition, with different positions and ideas regarding the ways of confronting Chavismo. However, they reject the statements that aim to deconfigure the unit.
The statement places special emphasis on the positions of parties or candidates that have raised the possibility of not participating in the primaries if the National Commission for Primary Education does not organize a process that adapts to their particular needs and demands.
“We are concerned about the statements of a few leaders and opinion makers about how the primary election should be held, because more than opinions they seem like threats against the commission and the election itself. If the commission did not decide one hundred percent as they say the election should be made, they suggest that they could not participate and unilaterally launch their candidacies,” the letter states.

The organizations stress that the National Commission for Primary Education faces a dilemma that revolves around holding the elections with technical and logistical support from the National Electoral Council (CNE) or organizing them without the participation of the entity and its electoral infrastructure.
“Each of the options has advantages and disadvantages and, of course, supporters and non-supporters. No decision will satisfy everyone,” they say.
Due to this context, the organizations ratify their support for the work carried out by the commission and invite them to make a decision based on serious analysis and broad consultations, which allows the greatest possible consensus on the part of all sectors, which aims to achieve the as much participation as possible.
The call is extended to the population, so that they participate in the process and support unity within the opposition above any other criteria.
“We call on all Venezuelans, political parties and citizen organizations to privilege the broadest possible Unit over other criteria, taking into account the complex nature of the primary, in the country and abroad,” they conclude.
The letter was signed by the organizations Aragua en Red, Ciudadanía Activa, Compromiso Ciudadano, Fundación Espacio Abierto, Gente del Petróleo, Grupo La Colina, Manifesta, Médicos Unidos de Venezuela, Red Organizations Vecinales de Baruta and Tertulia de los Martes.
