1-0: Canales gives Monterrey three points

Sergio Canales scored a goal to give the Rayados de Monterrey a 1-0 victory over the Lion in the 2026 Clausura Tournament of Mexican soccer. In a match on matchday six, the former Betic converted a header from a pass from Argentine Luca Orellano in the 24th minute to resolve a match of struggle in the middle of the field and few clear finishes on goal.

León put pressure at the start, but the Rayados dominated after minute 10 and were close to taking the lead with a couple of shots from Oliver Torres. It was his compatriot Canales who, in the 24th minute, made it 1-0, decisive of the match. The rest of the first half was dominated by the locals, although with few dangerous plays.

At the end of the match, the two teams decided to attack, but they neutralized each other. Monterrey rises to fifth place with three wins, one draw, two losses and 10 points, five less than the leader Guadalajara. León is sixteenth with four points.

In another match, Uruguayan coach Martín Varini’s Necaxa beat Juárez FC 1-2 with goals from Argentinians Julián Carranza and Javier Ruiz, after the leading team had taken the lead with a goal from Brazilian Ricardinho.

A couple of hours earlier, Venezuelan Salomón Rondón scored his third goal of the year, second in a row, in the Tuzos de Pachuca’s 3-1 victory over Atlas. The Moroccan Oussama Idrissi, Brian García and Salomón scored for the Tuzos and Alfonso González scored for the Rojinegros.
