1-0: Botafogo escapes in the lead

Botafogo won this Sunday 1-0 in his visit to the current champion palmeiras and he isolated himself even more at the top of the Brazilian Championship, in a match played at the Allianz Parque stadium in Sao Paulo. With a single goal from the tournament’s top scorer, Tiquinho Soares, and without an outstanding performance, the Rio de Janeiro team confirmed itself as the leader of the table, with 30 points, eight more than Palmeiras.

The paulistas -despite leaving everything on the field- were ousted by Gremio, who moved up to second position, with 23 points, after beating Coritiba 5-1. The Portuguese Abel Ferreira’s players fell to fourth place with 22 points, the same as Flamengo, which precedes the paulistas in third position, for the highest number of goals.

Luck did not accompany Palmeiras this Sunday, which dominated from the beginning and even drew with the Paraguayan Gustavo Gómez, a goal that ended up annulled by VAR. A second chance came in the second half with a penalty that was wasted by Raphael Veiga and, despite the intense offensive in the last few minutes, the paulistas failed to equalize.

In the south of the country, Gremio humiliated Coritiba

Meanwhile, in the south of the country, Gremio humiliated Coritiba with a win that was expected by the Porto Alegre fans. Argentine Franco Cristaldo opened the scoring with a penalty and minutes later Coritiba equalized with a goal from Alef Manga. The advantage came with the Paraguayan Mathias Villasanti and was reinforced with goals from Bitello, the Uruguayan Luis Suárez and André.

Also in the capital of São Paulo, Flamengo won 2-3 on their visit to Santos, a victory that was ensured by the Chilean Erick Pulgar, who scored the third goal for ‘Mengao’. Jorge Sampaoli’s men prevailed from the beginning and in the ‘Peixe’ the Colombian John Stiven Mendoza and the Uruguayan Rodrigo Fernández, authors of the two goals for Santos, stood out.

In other matches of the day, Bragantino defeated Goiás 2-0 and Internacional beat América Mineiro 2-1. On Saturday, Fluminense defeated Bahía 2-1 from a comeback, Athletico Paranaense beat Corithians 1-0 with a goal from Víctor Roque, the young revelation Barcelona wants and Fortaleza, who defeated Atlético 2-1 Mineiro.
