The UANL Tigers they won this Saturday by 0-1 at Blue Cross and they rose to second place in the classification of the Clausura 2023 tournament of Mexican soccer, in the debut of Diego Laínez with the ‘cats’. Argentine Guido Pizarro scored for the undefeated Tigres, who now have 11 points, one less than leader Pachuca.
Lainez, who belongs to Real Betis and is on loan to Los Tigres, played his first game with his new team, for which he signed last Monday.
Los Tigres seized possession of the ball in the first half and were close to opening the scoring at minute 4 with a mid-range shot from Colombian Luis Quiñones that goalkeeper José de Jesús Corona parried.
The duel fell into a pothole without dangerous plays until at 41 Quiñones made a wall with Pizarro, which ended with a header from the Argentine that became 0-1.
In the second half, Cruz Azul was close to leveling the score, but the Argentine goalkeeper Nahuel Guzmán avoided it with key saves, first by rejecting a header from the Uruguayan Ignacio Rivero, in minute 47, and then another shot with his head, from Augusto Lotti, in 1983.
Meanwhile, the Tigers generated danger thanks to the entry of Lainez, who entered in minute 54 and in minute 72 had his clearest chance when he outwitted two defenders and finished off on goal. However Corona avoided 0-2.
