BENEFITS OF THE CHANCAY MEGAPORT
- Reduction in transportation time: The first phase of the project will reduce the maritime journey between Peru and China to 23 days, significantly improving transportation times.
- Savings in logistics costs: A decrease of more than 20% in logistics costs is expected, which optimizes the competitiveness of Peruvian exports to the Asian market.
- Income generation: The megaport will contribute approximately $4.5 billion annually in revenue to Peru, which will benefit the national economy.
- Job creation: It is estimated that the project will generate 8,000 direct jobs, positively impacting the creation of jobs in the region and nationally.
- Capacity to receive large vessels: The port will be able to receive ships with up to 24,000 containers, increasing Peru’s logistics and cargo capacity.
- Increase in cargo movement: In the first years, it is projected that the port will move between 30% and 40% of Peruvian cargo destined for China and Southeast Asia.
- Advances in technology and sustainability: The port will have advanced technology and an ecological approach that will minimize its environmental impact, in addition to prioritizing safety in all operations.
- International strategic partnership: With a 60% participation of the Chinese state company Cosco Shipping and 40% of the Peruvian Volcan Compañía Minera, the project is the result of a collaboration that seeks to strengthen trade and investment relations between Peru and China.
Likewise, Chinese President Xi Jinping published an article in the official Peruvian newspaper The Peruvian and described this infrastructure as “a true path to prosperity” and highlighted that its construction will promote joint development, consolidating China as a strategic partner for Peru.
